SPRING 2009 - A MAN WITH A FUTURE!

OUR MOST INSPIRATIONAL, says he has learned a lot from us, but we feel that the blessing has been all ours!
After recently talking with Josh and his family, I thought you all might enjoy knowing what “our Most Inspirational Athlete, is planning after graduation.   I asked his parents to share with us his plans for the future…
Josh will be in a transitional special needs program called "Futures" in the fall.  There he will learn all the OCTD bus routes to be able to get around by himself, learn independent living skills, and will work with a job coach. He'll be placed on a job site for work experience as he's already done at Big Lots, Marshall's and Home Goods. He will also attend Saddleback College part time.  Later, he is hoping to be accepted into an internship program at Saddleback Memorial Hospital.  They would let him try working in different departments to see what skills he has and what tasks he could be trained for.  If he does well, he could be offered a full time paid job there at the hospital. Josh wants to have his own apartment someday, not too far from home.  He plans to continue swimming for exercise and for fun.  He says he'd really like to teach little kids like him how to swim!  Josh has learned so much from being on the ET swim team these last four years.  We can't thank everyone enough for all the support and acceptance he's received here.  Josh has loved every minute of this experience and has gained so much from it.  He's ready to go out there and spread his wings!

The El Toro aquatics family wishes Josh, and his family, the best as he spreads his wings, and again the life lessons and blessings have been all ours!  “GO JOSH”

Just like America picks its Favorite American Idol Singer each week, the El Toro
Swimmers decided to hold its own Favorite Swimmer Selection. Nominated and
selected unanimously by his teammates, the Chargers' Inspirational Swimmer for this
current Spring 2007 Season is Josh Roy, a sophomore at El Toro High School.

Every day after school, Josh like all the El Toro Swimmers, practices about 2 hours
each day working on all strokes, starts and turns.  Swimming for Josh has been
great!  What's very impressive is that Josh has has dropped his time down to a
season best of 52.1 in the 50 Free which is about a 30 second improvement over last
year.  Josh is also comfortable swimming the 100 free.
And you can always count on Josh to give it his best when he swims on the
 200 Frestyle Relay Team.

For some swimmers, high school swimming is all about winning dual meets, league
and CIF.  For other swimmers, it's all about improving one's times.  And that's
exactly how Josh sees it!  Every time Josh dives into the pool, his goal is to
race against himself and the clock.  Even more inspiring for Josh is that
improvements seem to come each week at the dual meets and this
 is very exciting!

"I love swimming for ET!  I really like Coach Bode and Coach Schaffer,
they help me a lot.  I can tell that practice is making me stronger.  My favorite
race is the 50 free [individual].  I like my teammates, and it really means a lot
to me when they cheer me on and  'pound it' after races.  I can't wait for
 next season!"

"We are grateful for the coaches' allowing Josh to participate and work with
the rest of the team.  It has been a real boost in his confidence.  We appreciate
all the support for Josh."
